Why Raise Money?

As a non-profit charity, the Laura Johnson Home depends on fund-raising for many of its needs.

As well, the Home needs to grow and re-equip to meet demand.

Over the years, the Home's role has changed from catering for our city's Frail Aged, to now providing care and accommodation for the longer term convalescent and the totally incapacitated of all ages.

This change in role has created a need for additional facilities and equipment and fund-raising is one means of meeting this need.

What does the Home need?

It needs to build Retirement Village Units to cater for the growing aged population of Mount Isa. It needs new equipment such as Hospital Beds, Patient Lifters, Bed Pan Hoppers, Sterilizers, Emergency Power and Lighting.

It needs to build Dementia Care Facilities, to install a Hydrotherapy Pool and to expand its Day Therapy Centre.

What do Fund-raising Volunteers do?

Just a few of the ways you can help are with such things as the Annual Fete, Seniors Week Activities, Mount Isa Day and Mardi Gras Activities and with our Raffles and Art Unions.

Apart from the formal ways in which we recognise our Volunteers such as our Annual Volunteers Night, Volunteers Awards and such like, most probably the major benefits for you are intangible.
