ROLE PURPOSE:
The key purpose of this role is to provide a variety of services to residents in a residential setting as allocated by the Qualified Nurse or supervisor. These services are in keeping with the lifestyle approach to the needs of Residents. |
KEY RESPONSIBLITIES
- To actively contribute as a member of the team supporting the resident to maintain independence in the safety and comfort of their own home. This could involve any of the following responsibilities:
- Personal care
- Social and emotional support
- Domestic assistance
- Provision of nutritional meals
- Support to maintain a safe living environment.
- Attend to all areas of responsibility for residents as recorded in their individual Care Plan.
- Ensure the privacy, confidentiality and dignity of Residents.
- Respond to emergency situations using first aid skills whilst not working outside scope of role responsibilities.
- Maintain professional working relationships with residents at all times.
Documentation:
- Support the provision of accurate and reliable resident documentation eg. progress notes, improvement logs.
- Reporting/document changes in care needs.
Continuous Quality Improvement:
- Ensure all activities comply with The Laura Johnson Home policies and procedures; and relevant legislative, professional, ethical and quality standards.
- Participate in The Laura Johnson Home Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) programs.
- Undertake both compulsory and elective training as required and demonstrate competency of practice.
Occupational Health and Safety:
- Has awareness and complies with the organisation's Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental practices.
- Reports all workplace incidents, accidents and hazards immediately to supervisor and rectifies minor hazards that can be safely controlled.
- Use lifting equipment, assistive devices and the personal protective equipments (PPE) as required.
- Continued ability to meet to the Critical Job Demands for the position.
LIMITS OF AUTHORITY:
- Refer all media enquiries to the Director of Nursing.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
1. Qualifications:
- Certificate III in Community Aged Care (or near study completion) is preferred but not essential, as is previous experience in Community and/or Aged Care.
- Current First Aid Certificate is essential.
2. Thinking Competencies:
- Ability to make decisions, solve problems and prioritise daily tasks.
3. Self Managing Competencies:
- Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new tasks and processes and use feedback as a source of ongoing improvement.
4. Interpersonal Competencies:
- Demonstrated ability to understand and provide for the needs of clients, for example, disabled, elderly, infant and family members.
- Demonstrated commitment to work within a team.
- Ability to promote a friendly work environment and to coach others.
5. Achieving Competencies:
- Ability to meet deadlines and complete tasks while unsupervised.
- Ability to identify and communicate key issues to team members and supervisors, both verbally and in writing.
6. Other
- Federal Police Clearance must be attained and any future charges or convictions that could potentially affect your role within The Laura Johnson Home must be disclosed.
