The Home now consists of
34 Low Care Units, a High Care Unit of 40 beds, 12 Garden Villas Independent
Living Units and a day Centre offering diversional and other therapy
services to all of Mount Isa's aged and long term convalescent.
The Home is a lasting testament
to the foresight and generosity of the people of Mount Isa and the many
groups and organizations that combined to make Mrs. Laura Johnson's
challenge a reality.
Over the years, the scope
of the Society's care and accommodation service has expanded from care
of the aged to encompass care for persons of all ages requiring accommodation
and/or care services.
Increasingly there is a community
expectation that aged persons should be cared for in their own home
and in their own community. With the sparse population of the North-west
and the high cost of service delivery, this can be a difficult expectation
to meet.
As a not-for-profit organization,
the Society adheres to a philosophy that requires that any funds surplus
to immediate need be devoted to providing services to the community
it serves. To this end, the Society continues to seek ways and means,
both traditional and innovative; of providing additional services to
the people and region it serves, either in partnership with other community
service providers or upon it's own account.
